YDNPA landscape character areas

The Yorkshire Dales National Park Landscape Character Assessment was reviewed in 2019 and extended to include the new areas in south east Cumbria and north east Lancashire which were designated National Park in 2016. The Landscape Consultants were Sheilsflynn of Cambridge. The assessment consists of an overview report and 19 character area reports. The overview describes the landscape of the National Park, its categorisation and the forces for change acting on it. Each of the 19 area assessments describe their key characteristics supported by photographs and detailed maps. The Yorkshire Dales National Park Landscape Character Assessment was endorsed by the Authority in March 2020. It is now being used to inform partnership projects, land management strategies, planning policy, planning decision making and cross boundary working.
